I’m going to give you an example of picking from the 6th slot in a 12 team draft based on DLF ADP. How is that going for teams that drafted Mitchell Trubisky, Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Dwayne Haskins, and Jordan Love? Let those other teams take the quarterback early while you stock up on filling out the rest of your roster. As the value they hold compared to the rest of the league is incredible. I understand why dynasty teams are clamoring to draft young quarterbacks such as Herbert, Burrow, and Lawrence in round one or two of startup drafts. Selecting the older quarterback allows you to select elite skill position players earlier in the draft. Burrow is going in the first round while Ryan is going in the sixth round of drafts. The value of the player may not be similar, but you’re going to get similar production starting Kirk Cousins that you will by starting Joe Burrow. What this tells me is that you are getting similar production at age 26 that you do at age 32. You do not see a significant drop from the quarterback until age 34. As you can see from the graph below a quarterback does not peak until age 29 season. Quarterback age is easily the most overrated part of a dynasty league. They are Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers. Only two quarterbacks are over 30 years old. ( 50%!) The next takeaway is how young they all are. If we include the second round we jump up to 12 of the first 24 picks being a quarterback. There are a few things that jump out to me, one is that the teams desire the stud fantasy quarterback. Mahomes, Allen, McCaffrey, Murray, Watson, Herbert, Jackson, Prescott, Burrow, Taylor. I’m here to show you how this proven strategy can give you a leg up on the rest of your leagueĭLF Superflex Dynasty ADP has eight of the first ten picks as quarterbacks. While you will be able to walk away with marquee names such as Kamara, Taylor, Adams, and Metcalf. You will miss out on prominent players such as Mahomes, Murray, Allen, and Jackson. So why am I writing an article that is telling you to fade quarterbacks in Superflex startup drafts? There is serious value to be had at other positions in the draft if you employ this tactic. In my Scott Fish Bowl 12 live draft that took place in early July in the Canton-3 Division, I picked at the 1.09.In Superflex leagues the quarterback is king. Typically when we draft a QB we want to see plenty of them go off the board before our next pick, which leaves more good skill players for us to draft. There are times when you can start your draft QB-QB and have the position sewn up so you can attack the rest of your draft carefree, but that strategy can backfire if the rest of your league mates are punting on QB as the skill players available in the middle rounds will not be what they normally are in a Superflex draft. The hardest part about a Superflex draft is figuring out when to time the QB run and to use a tier-based drafting system for QBs, which I will outline in the next paragraph. If you are new to the format or want to try it out for the first time, Superflex allows one additional all-flex position where you can start an additional QB, RB, WR, or TE. One could argue that Quarterback is the most important position in all sports, yet it's mostly devalued in fantasyland. That's how much having a quarterback matters! Superflex draft strategy upgrade#In the real-life NFL, half of the league is beyond desperate for a quarterback upgrade and General Managers everywhere treat running backs like they are Vegas hotel rooms over a Bachelor Party Weekend.Īs we saw with how the Deshaun Watson trade went down this offseason, almost a dozen teams were interested in giving up three first-round picks for a player accused of doing some bad things and expected to miss at least half of the season. When you think about it, the default 1QB format in fantasy football is the complete opposite of real life. Superflex is becoming a much more common format all across the fantasy football landscape and for good reason.
